Purple Mountains- -Update 3-13
maryq Send a Message
HI Gals,

Once again, need some opinions.

this a little something I kind of threw together... I was testing a theory and my sweet neighbor Marybeth came over and helped me lay this out.

Now the question is: Purple Border? White Border?
of thin Purple border with wider White border?

What do you think!?

Okay, the borders are ON! Small white with wide purple! AND I spent the morning getting it all layered and pinned! YIPPE! YEAH ME! Now to quilt it... think I'll do a few practice stitches and what I like.
Any suggestions?

It’s really pretty! You and that other Mary did a great job! What about a narrow border of that darkest purple (lower left mountain) and then a larger purple print in white background?

I'm thinking a thin lighter purple print first, then a deep purple that reads solid and will frame it. It is very pretty with all the purples.

I like Mary and Chickie's suggestion of narrow inner border (light) either light purple or white. Then a darker outer border. I love bright colors, so for me it would be like the brightest purple on your mountains. Even a pretty Forrest green in the outer border, if there are any hints of greens in your prints. Can't tell exactly in the picture.

Mary Margaret, I love your purple mountains. It is so beautiful. Nice colors. I would go too with a white inner narrow border and purple for border. Great jobs!

I myself don't like light borders so I would agree, small white and then purple.

I like that. I would do a bit of white first then the dark for borders.

I agree with the light inner border with a darker outside border. With darker outside, the quilt will look like it is framed. Nice work.

Mary Your quilt is adorable. Your not wasting any time catching up with the gals on here that have been retired for awhile. Your turning out quilts left and right. Nice job.

I go with Izzy - thin white, then a final purple border. But Izzy makes her own quilts, so do whatever makes you happy with it! (Sorry, Izzy!)

One of each main color -- graduating by 1" to 2" in wudth ( 1 1/2 - 2 1/2 - 3 1/2 - 4 1/2 or 5 1/2 being the last border)--just thinking outloud -- could lay stripes and stand back -- beautiful quilt -- one i hope to be that good.

MaryQ, Had to hunt for the photo but this turned out Awesome Mtns Majesty. Love the way you finished it. Without borders the white seemed to stand out. With your pretty choice of colors, now the purples just seem to pop and look more mountainy. (is that even a word?)

Anyhow, great great job. I can see you smiling in your words each day. You are really enjoying your retirement. God bless as you continue inspiring the rest of us and making the most of retirement. You know how to do it, retire, very well.

Hugs across the miles, dear friend, Shirley Mae
