Finished my quilt project!

Need to figure out this new web site???

I thought I could post all three images at once, but it just didn't work. So I did them one at a time. Sorry for the mix up.

But I want to tell you all about just what happened with all those NUMBERS!! Remember how I feared that they would not wash out?? Well yes, they did not just simply wash out.

My good quilt friends came to my rescue. I had Lyn and Margaret trying to help me with this dilemma. Lyn had a special "Grandma" formula. That seemed to help, but it would have been a complete nightmare to apply and rub into each number. There was way over 400 separate numbers throughout the quilt.

No way! I wasn't about to spend that much time, rubbing and using that much product. So I sprayed the quilt top all over with Spray and Wash and put it back through bath number two.... then.....

I had an idea. My mother was the Queen of Stains and Spots. I remembered when she would use a diluted bleach bath on some things to help whiten items. So I got my bucket out and took 1 1/2 cup of bleach and diluted it with about three buckets of water. Put all this in the machine first. (The new machines the park has here are energy efficient machines and you can not fill the machine and then add your clothes) So I wanted that bleach to be fully diluted. Then I put in the "monster" quilt and tried bath #3.

Well, pretty good success actually. After this third bath, I finally dried it in the dryer and it finally faded the numbers quite a bit.
Oh, I also forgot to mention, that after bath 1 and bath 2, I still could see those blue marks throughout that were stitching lines for the quilting. And..... now those also were gone.

I thought about actually washing the quilt again next week with my regular laundry, one more time, but have since changed my mind.

I am just going to wait. Maybe in time, it will disappear some on it own. If not, I will launder it before I give it to one of the grand kids in the future. It will go into storage for a few years anyway.

So that's what has happen with this project.
It is finally done, and I am off to finish another UFO!!

VELDA - it is beautiful!! You did an amazing, awesome, stunning job on it on this masterpiece! Bummer about the blue numbers though. Didn't you say that this kit was kind of old? that may be why the blue was so set. I'd have been so afraid to try bleach! But it worked!

Velda its gorgeous!! Did you use a sheet on the back? I love it:) I wonder if the blue lines were stuck in time; didn't you say this has been in storage for a long time prior to you getting it. Humm makes you wonder.

Yes, it was a very old kit. I will have to quiz my friend when I see her in April to see how old she thinks it might have been. The blue lines were still visible after the first two washing. After I used the bleach bath, though, those are gone. The numbers are still there in some places, but less obvious. Thanks, everyone for all your kinds words. Vel
