I'm new here, and somewhat new to quilting, thanks to Eleanor Burns! I saw this quilt pattern on her show one day and absolutely fell in love with it. I took a picture of my TV screen and went out to find the book. Later it occurred to me that the center square could be a photo... it sort of had that frame look. I had been wanting to incorporate photos in the peicing of a quilt, rather than applique photos on a solid sheet of fabric. Also, I colored the photos a green sepia to blend with the green toille in the quilt. I just finished the top last night.

The pictures are recent, and the embroidery at the bottom reads: With God all things are possible. Here's the story... my son, now almost 3 years old, is somewhat of a miracle. I developed severe pre-eclampsia and HELLP syndrome very early on in pregnancy, and he had to be delivered over 3 months early in order for us both to survive. It caused my liver and kidneys to shut down, and my blood pressure had gone to stroke levels. I fully recovered the days following delivery. He was born at 1 pound and 1 ounce (half the size he should have been) and fought in NICU for 92 days before going home - healthy and with no monitors or need for extra oxygen! His sight, hearing, developmental and overall health has not been affected from being so premature. He's a normal little smarty pants kid who loves to play and sing his ABCs. He also caught up in growth and is now taller than his peers. He is absolutely precious and we are so thankful!

Oh I meant to ask, should I do purple binding or the green? Also, any ideas on how to quilt it?

Hi Countrygirl and a great big Welcome too. What an awesome quilt! It is definitely filled with memories and made with love. That saying on the bottom just puts it over the top. That is a beautiful thought to live by. And your son is living proof of that. God bless you and him.

I love the colors you chose. This really does look like picture frames. The stripes were perfect to set it off. If you are a beginning quilter, you must be a very fast learner. Great job on everything. As for the binding, just audition the fabric along the side to see if you like it. Either color would be very pretty.

Thank you so much for posting the pic. What a story and an inspiration to us all. Please go over to the sew-in section and tell us a little about yourself. Your son sounds delightful. All 3 of my kids were preemies too, one like yours only 3 lbs and in hosp 3 months. They are in their 40's now, all healthy and kids of their own. I truly believe that with God all things are possible!

Hugs and blessings and Happy Quilting to a new friend today.

Country Girl, gorgeous! I love your color choices. Shirley Mae is right. Audition each of the fabrics with the amount you would see with the width of the binding peeking out. *wink wink, make sure you audition the purple stripe with the stripe perpendicular to the quilt. I love stripe bindings.

I hope you write a very big label for the back with as much of the wonderful story of your son as you can get on it!

Welcome to our virtual guild. Come and play often, and check out the BOM lottery! Keep it up - you are a talent and have a great eye.

That is a beautiful quilt. What a great idea to use the centers for pictures. I think I would stick with purple for the binding. Lori

Thank you all for your sweet comments! I love El's methods. She makes it so easy. I had always thought quilting was cutting out thousands of little squares and hoping they went together straight, then in 10 years you'd be done.

I had originally cut purple for the binding thinking that the green would be too busy, but now I'm second guessing myself. My husband thought green would be good too. Hmmmm....

We have a quilt show here in April and I thought about entering it, assuming I get it done in time. I believe they let you attach some words about the quilt, which I could use to share my son's testimony. I need to check into it.

What a gorgeous quilt and treasured keepsake. I agree with Pam, a label on the back with your son's story would be awesome.

I think a green binding would be great.

Thanks for sharing.

I think the quilt looks perfect just like it is. For that reason I would not distract from the overall effect by using green binding. I think the purple would be perfect because it would just blend in with the purple border and would not distract from the 'wholeness' of the quilt.

Beautiful quilt..... filled with love...the best kind of quilt there is!!
